Annual FFA Ham, Bacon and Egg Sale Hits Milestone

From left: CHS seniors Breanna Pekula, KieAnna Powell and Levi Scott prepare for the upcoming Ham, Bacon and Egg Show and Sale.

The Cameron FFA will celebrate the 40th anniversary of the Marshall County Ham, Bacon and Egg Show and Sale next week.

This annual program provides students with the opportunity to learn how to raise hogs for the production of ham and bacon, country cure the items, trim and smoke them and market them through the sale.  While many of the processes have changed throughout the years, the students’ hard work and dedication have remained steadfast.

The 2018 judging and show will take place at Cameron High School on Monday, March 5, 2018 beginning at 10:00 am.  From the more than 100 hams and 100 bacons, 75 of each will be selected to sell. Eggs will also be graded and 20 dozen will be selected to sell.

The sale happens on Wednesday, March 7, 2018 at the Marshall County Fairgrounds in the Chesapeake Energy Events Building. Doors will open at 5:30 pm and the auction will begin at 6:30 pm.  During the auction, ham and bacon are sold by the pound and eggs are sold by the dozen. The sale is open to the public.
