Marshall County Social Studies Fair Held

The 14th annual Marshall County Schools Social Studies Fair took place on Friday at the John Marshall Field House.

Students in third through twelfth grade from Cameron Elementary, Center McMechen Elementary, Central Elementary, Glen Dale Elementary, Hilltop Elementary, Sand Hill Elementary, Cameron Middle School, Moundsville Middle School, Sherrard Middle School and John Marshall High School competed in three divisions (elementary, middle school and high school), each featuring 10 different categories for individuals and groups. 

There were 100 project entries, with 137 students participating. While an overall winner isn’t named, five students earned a perfect score from the judges.

In Division I (elementary school), Glen Dale Elementary 5th graders Addilyn Ellwood and Leana Roberts earned a 100% for their project titled “West Virginia Statehood: A Journey Back in Time” while Glen Dale Elementary 5th grade student Paislee Dobbs received a 100% for her presentation, “The Great Escape.”

Cameron Middle School student Jersey Schafer collected a 100% for her submission titled “Grand Canyon.” Sherrard Middle School student Lauren McGraw acquired a 100% for her project named “The Vice Presidents: Second to One.” Both young ladies competed in Division II (middle school).

Individual and group winners with the highest scores in each category will compete against students from Hancock, Brooke, Ohio and Wetzel counties during the Regional Social Studies Fair at the John Marshall Field House on Thursday, March 13, 2025.  

Regional winners from all over the state will go head-to-head at the West Virginia State Social Studies Fair on Friday, April 11, 2025, at the Charleston Coliseum and Convention Center.
